CORRESPONDENCE OF THE HUMAN BODY
Lectures by Hugo Lj. Odhner

PART ONE

Chapter XI

"CORRESPONDENCE"
Definitions of All Possible Relationships by CORRESPONDENCES.

1.    "Correspondence is the appearing of what is internal in what is external, and its representation there."  A. 5423.

2.    Correspondence exists between spiritual and natural things, or between mind and body.  D. Wis. ii,3.

The natural is what "corresponds" (not vuce versa, except in a loose manner of speaking.).  Cp H. 89, 90.

3.    While Correspondence is strictly a relation between the successive discrete degrees within a homogeneous series resulting from a creative action, yet in a general sense all parallel or homologous series are made up of elements "correspondent" to the elements of other series.  (See Chart: Figures B, C, D.)

4.    Correspondence within the Divine.

The only complete correspondence existed within the Glorified Human (Cp. A. 1414e, Ath. Cr. 192.)

From this it would follow that complete correspondence means unity and Identity.

The Divine Human, as the Body of God, is thus correspondently One with His Divine Itself.

There is nothing "higher and lower" in this Divine Correspondence, "since in the Lord all is infinite" (A. 4715).

5.    Creative Correspondences.

All correspondences within the entire universe are due to the creative influx of the Divine, which is the same in gretests and in leasts.

In a strict sense, however, creative correspondence exists where lower things are acturlly created from and by means of higher things.

          a)    Spritual Atmospheres are created to correspond to, and to subserve, the Divine as accommodated to various degrees.  They are media of the Divine Proceding, and also of angelic proceedings.

          b)    Spiritual Ultimates are similarly created in correspondence with the three spiritual atmospheres.

          c)    Natural Atmospheres are created to correspond to, and to serve, the three spiritual atmospheres.

          d)    Natural Ultimates correspond to the natural atmospheres, to the spiritual ultimates, and to the Divine of the Lord.

          e)    Organic Nature has its creative origin from the Divine of the Lord (A. C. 1632, 1807, 18082, 1881) to which it therefore corresponds (T. 78).

(There is also a mediate origin through the heavens and the hells, see (g), below.)

          f)    Spiritual Objects, created by the Lord in the accommodation to the states of angels, are correspondences representing those states (T. 78); but they also represent the Divine of the Lord.  Such correspondences are createde by means of angelic spheres, and may be called "projectional correspondences".

          g)    Organic Forms in Nature after the advent of mankind, are created in at least partial correspondence with the heavens and hells from the human race.  All animals have as their souls "natural affections" of angels, spirits, and devils, to which they no doubt corerespond, in both worlds.

6.    Formative Correspondences.

The human body, as a microcosm, is created into the reception of the natural world.  The senses, e. g., are adapted by the various atmospheres to receive, and respond to, the vibrations of each.  The eye "corresponds" to the ether by "formative" correspondences.  But it corresponds to obedience, by a "spiritual" correspondence.

The spiritual body is, analogoulsy, in a "formative" correspondence with the planes of the spiritual world.

 7.    The Relation of Spiritual Correspondence exists between

          a)    the body and the mind, the spiritual and the natural; as between the spiritual body and the natural body, or between the soul and the "limbus". [and between the spiritual sun and the natural sun]

          b)    A spiritual correspondence exists also between natural ideas and spiritual ideas, or between the literal sense of the Word and its spiritual sense.

          d)    Spiritual Correspondence exists in general also between all discrete degrees of a homogenous series within the spiritual world.  (See D. Wis. xii,4; De Verbo iii.)

     Note:

Natural Correspondence comes from a spontaneous harmony caused by the order of creation (Cp. Music)

Acquired Correspondence  is derived from the perception and use of a built up symbolism, such as that of words or associated memories.  See Rat. Psych. chapter III.
